Piupiu Earrings (Gold)
$20.00 NZD
These piupiu-inspired earrings are made from cotton and reference the form and movement of piupiu, rather than traditional materials or texture. They present a contemporary interpretation of a recognisable Māori aesthetic.
The design features pakati on the outer edges, symbolising strength, courage, and resilience. Within the pattern are four squares, representing Whare Tapa Whā — the four pillars of wellbeing: taha tinana, taha hinengaro, taha wairua, and taha whānau.
Coloured black, red, and white — the colours of the Tino Rangatiratanga flag — these earrings express identity, unity, and self-determination.
Lightweight and modern, they honour Māori visual language while clearly standing as a reinterpretation for contemporary wear.
